January 2020 Clinical Supervision Topic: Goal Consensus & Collaboration

Hello to all, and happy 2020! I am so happy to be working with you all this year. I look forward to all that our collective minds and collaborative efforts will create. I know we will contribute to so many positive outcomes in our communities this year.

Each month in 2020 we’ll be focusing on the common factors, which you can read more about here, and can listen to one of the main researchers talk about here. Research has shown that, across all evidence-based (and non-evidenced-based) therapies, there are several factors that consistently create therapeutic change; see below.

Width of bar indicates number of studies done.

The common factors research shows better outcomes can be expected when the client and therapist agree on therapeutic goals and the processes to achieve these goals. As we start the new year and resolutions and goals are fresh on everyone’s minds, we’ll get curious about our client’s goals. If a client doesn’t seem to have goals, how can we best elicit that information? And what do we do if our goals do not match the clients? There is a lot to explore here.

As a reminder, my current groups are:

2nd Sundays 3:30-5:30pm in Vancouver

2nd Mondays 5:30-7:30pm at Taborspace

3rd Sundays 3:30-5:30pm at Taborspace

3rd Thursdays 11-1pm at Taborspace (this month’s will be an exception, as group will be held on January 9)

See you all soon!
