Therapy for Complex Trauma: it can get better
When you grow up in an abusive home, it can feel like things won’t get better. Your nervous system is wired for hypervigilance, anxiety, sensitivity. You can feel like the cards are stacked against you. Relationships are tricky. Isolation is more comfortable. Self-loathing feels awful, but familiar.
And still: there is hope.
There are therapies available (Internal Family Systems, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Coherence Therapy, Self-Compassion, Polyvagal Theory) that can make things better.
How?
These therapies don’t try to fix you. You don’t need fixing. They accept you exactly as you are. They don’t stigmatize you.
Perhaps you’ve been given a diagnosis such as: Major Depressive Disorder, Depression with psychosis, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Bi-polar Disorder, or Borderline Personality Disorder.
It doesn’t matter. I mean, it does matter. Getting a thoughtful, accurate diagnosis makes all the difference. And. also, it doesn’t matter, in that regardless of your diagnosis, you can experience relief. You can experience healing. You can feel different. More like you.
If any of this resonates, I’d love to talk to you about your experience with complex trauma, and the possibilities that are available to you. Feel free to schedule a conversation here.
