June 2021 Clinical Supervision Topic: Race, Power, Privilege and Oppression
It’s been a year since George Floyd was murdered.
Most of you receiving supervision from me are white-bodied humans. I’d love to know: what have you read since then? What have you changed in your clinical approach? What matters more to you now, what matters less?
For my BIPOC clinicians, are you feeling respected, honored and empowered in sharing your wisdom and experience around race, power, oppression and privilege in clinical spaces? If not, I invite further discussion around this, and an acknowledgment that I can always do better (and will keep working hard at it too).
Please choose one of the following in preparation for clinical supervision this month:
The post and video I shared last year including Robin DiAngelo presenting on white fragility
Resmaa Menakem’s On Being interview
Isabel Wilkerson’s interview with Terry Gross about her book Caste
Barbara J. Love’s writings on liberatory consciousness
We’ll discuss some concrete tools that we can all use to make our clinical spaces even safer places to explore identity, power, oppression and healing.
