This month we’re looking at therapist effects as one of the common factors that impact our client’s outcomes in therapy. Get your pen and journal out, we’re diving into some reflection work!
I’m looking forward to this month’s topic. I’ve been thinking of it so much in light of the Black Lives Matter movement and the ways white supremacy shows up in my work as a social worker and clinical supervisor. And gosh, it sure shows up a lot…
On May 26th, 2020, Memorial Day, George Floyd was killed by a police officer holding him down with his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes. I know you have been closely watching the protests and the calls for a stronger stance against racism, a call for us all to be anti-racists.
The Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers is finally moving everything online. Here are a few updates they recently sent me in response to some of your questions:
Did you miss the Portland State University School of Social Work workshop on how to get your CSWA in Oregon once you’ve graduated with your MSW? This video will show you how to get both the CSWA and LCSW and also get everything else you have ever, ever wanted in your life. All the secrets, here…look no further. Surprising what you can learn from just an hour and a half of Zoom + Youtube and a spotty internet connection!
When I graduated with my master’s in social work from PSU in 2010, I didn’t have a clue about how to get my clinical license. I also didn’t understand why I even needed a license, and I definitely didn’t know what clinical supervision was. Well, the student has become the master. Or in this case, the clueless has become the master. In theory. This training is open to anyone in Oregon wanting to get their clinical social work license.
For may we’re continuing our discussion of the common factors theory and focusing on unconditional positive regard. Come get support from your clinical community while sharpening your technical skills. You’ll leave sessions feeling connected and with some clearer ideas of how to intentionally do your work.
Ethics Training with Susie Snyder, LCSW and Lisa Race, LCSW. I’m helping produce this training which is on May 8th. Susie and Lisa will teach ethics from an authentic self perspective. Come and we’ll learn together!
Susie Snyder, LCSW Is providing an Integrative Approaches to Working with Trauma training on April 17, 2020. Susie reached out to me shortly after COVID-19 cases appeared in Washington state and hired me to help her move her all-day in-person training to an on-line workshop experience. Ariana Lloyd, LCSW helps mental health professionals develop their businesses through clinical supervision, private practice consultation and more.
For our clinical supervision sessions in April, we’re going to create some space to discuss the personal and professional impacts of COVID-19 and also continue our conversations around therapeutic alliance. We’ll keep it simple, compassionate and supportive this month. I know you are all strong and competent, but you are also carrying a lot. It’s my hope that our work together makes you feel not alone, and gives you more creativity, self-and-other-compassion, and some joy as you work through this time.
Anna Caitlin Photography will be providing our headshots at the Private Practice Party. Anna is a well-known and sought-after photographer in Portland, OR. She provides honest, meaningful images for therapists who are starting or growing their private practice.
